Problem

BancaNet Empresarial Móvil is the mobile extension of Citibanamex's enterprise electronic banking portal. The app surfaces the most relevant features from the web channel — accounts, authorizations, payments, and transfers — designed primarily for administrative and operational profiles managing company finances from their phones. Like the web portal, the mobile channel had an outdated experience that didn't meet modern usability standards, didn't reflect the bank's renewed brand identity, and lacked a differentiated value proposition in the enterprise mobile banking space.

Research

The research phase was shared with the BancaNet Empresarial web channel — see the "BancaNet Empresarial — Research" initiative for the full detail.

Summary: competitive benchmark of enterprise electronic banking in Mexico (BBVA Bancomer, Santander, Banorte, HSBC, Scotiabank, among others) + heuristic evaluations that scored critically low in Friendly (1/4), Accessible (1/4), Efficient (1/4), and Trustworthy (0/4). Research with 41 participants (16 SMEs, 22 companies, 3 corporates, age 27–36). Top pain points on the mobile channel: access issues (~30%), transfer difficulties (13.7%), and frequent lockouts (7.8%). A fourth-iteration round of usability interviews with SME participants informed final backlog prioritization.

Solution

I coordinated the full redesign of the app, establishing user-centered design practices and aligning the design team with product, tech, and business leads. We delivered a modern visual language within the bank's institutional design system, with detailed user flows covering every journey scenario. The design went through multiple iterations with real users, incorporating biometric access, simplified architecture, and a UX debt matrix to guide continuous improvement. Available on App Store and Google Play.

Overview

BancaNet Empresarial Móvil was a redesign initiative to give a new direction to Citibanamex’s mobile banking app for enterprise and business clients.

A New Direction for the App

The project started from the recognition that the existing app needed a fundamental rethinking — not just a visual refresh, but a restructuring of the experience based on actual user needs.

Research & Analysis

The research phase combined qualitative and quantitative methods to understand how business clients were using the app, their main pain points, and the tasks they needed to accomplish most frequently.
